CURRICULUM INTENT
Life, Love and Learning to the Full
At High Bickington C of E Academy, we aim to build the foundations of life in all its fullness, underpinned by our Christian values of wisdom, compassion, justice, service, peace, perseverance, care for creation, and hope. We strive for every child to understand what it means to be loved and to love others within our school, local, national, and global communities.
To achieve this, we have created a curriculum built on four key drivers:
-
Building Learning Power – empowering children to become resilient, independent thinkers who love learning.
-
Building Futures – equipping children with the skills and knowledge they need to realise their ambitions and thrive in an ever-changing world.
-
Building Communities – fostering a strong sense of belonging, encouraging children to contribute positively to their local community and beyond.
-
Building Self-Esteem – nurturing self-worth and confidence so children can embrace challenges and celebrate their individuality.
Our Big Event Curriculum is at the heart of this approach. It provides meaningful and memorable experiences that inspire curiosity, encourage deep thinking, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Through the curriculum, children take pride in their locality while gaining a secure understanding of other cultures worldwide, helping them become compassionate and informed global citizens.
Our curriculum is rich, exciting, and diverse—and most importantly, it is accessible to all. We ensure every child has the skills they need to engage fully with their learning journey, enabling them to flourish academically, socially, and personally
